Polaris ATV: What is it all about?

To be able to possess a light weight, high powered, good suspension vehicle must be every man’s dream true. Like a lady’s urge to buy the latest trending cloths, ATV vehicles must have the same effect with men.

The all-terrain vehicle or ATV (sometimes referred as a quad, quad bike, three-wheeler or four-wheeled), is a small open-air vehicle that travels with low-pressure tires, straddling the operator in all types of terrain. Only some countries consider it to be street legal, mostly due to the fact that it is notorious for its questionable safety.

It is intended for a single operator use but some companies have expanded this by providing space for a second passenger. It is likened to riding a motorcycle, with the rider in front and in charge of operating the vehicle. It is typically equipped with four wheels but three-wheeled or six-wheeled models are becoming in demand for specialized applications.

When we talk about ATVs, the name “Polaris” usually accompanies it. Known for producing high quality vehicles, it’s no surprise that the ATV of Polaris Industries is high in demand. Polaries Industries is a manufacturer of snowmobiles, electric vehicles and of course – ATVs. Located in Minnesota, it has been in business since 1954 and was the one who first produced the North American ATV in 1984. Today, it is considered as one of the largest producers of ATVs and UTVs alike.

The company also manufactures motorcycles but no longer produces watercraft. Did you know that Polaris hosts racing competitions too? Polaris Racing is one of the big four factory racing teams on the World Power Sports Association (WPSA) Snocross circuit. Players show off their skills in motocross, desert racing, hill climbing and ice racing using ATV models. Late in 2005, a portion of KTM Motorcycles was purchased by Polaris Industries. This enabled KTM to develop their own ATV and Polaris has developed Sport ATVs which utilize the KTM 525 and 450 powerplants that have seen great success on the ATV racing circuit.

Polaris Magnum 425 4-stroke ATV was the first ATV developed by Polaris Industries in 1995. It was through the efforts of Robin, now the owner of Subaru, who developed all-terrain vehicle and snowmobile engines for U.S.-based equipment. It was followed by the “Twin 700” in 1997. This prompted Polaris to develop and produce in-house powerplants called the “Liberty” line of engines. Polaris products were then hailed 100% American made because of these productions.
Among the features that Polaris does better than other ATV manufacturers, are superior braking and suspension systems, the automatic transmissions, as well as comfort and quickness. Polaris also gives you the option of owning a sport or utility oriented ATV.
Fans of the Polaris ATV won’t get disappointed because it’s a guarantee that Polaris unveils a new model each year. For 2013, Polaris has built a brand new Scrambler XP 850, made a midsize Ranger 800 EFI, and put the awesome ProStar 900 engine into the Ranger XP line, creating the Ranger XP 900 and Ranger XP 900 EPS.

You should take note however that the Ranger HD 800 and the Scrambler 500 4×4 are not in the Polaris line-up to be tested out.
Polaris Utility ATVs include the Sportsman 850 XP, Sportsman 550 XP, Sportsman 500 HO and Sportsman 400 HO. Sport ATV Options include the Outlaw 525 IRS, Scrambler 500, Trail Blazer 330 and Trail Boss 330. Polaris also offers Ranger 400, Ranger 500, Ranger 800 XP, Ranger 800 Crew, Ranger Diesel, Ranger RZR 570, Ranger RZR 800, Ranger RZR 4 800 and Ranger RZR XP 900 UTVs.

There is, however, a certain debate about the safety of these vehicles. While manufacturers assure their customers the safety of riding this, there are alarming reports about the growing rate of injured children and adolescent. ATVs are more dangerous than dirt bikes and can cause serious injuries if you fall off without a helmet. Polaris has taken great measures to ensure that the possibility of injuries would be minimized. It also depends on the rider if he/she would take extra safe precautionary.

One can’t ignore the fact that Polaris ATV is indeed a one sweet ride. Enjoy the ride but remember to be careful as well!
